The owners of Horta das Canas (`Garden of Reeds`) have spent many years carefully and lovingly renovating and extending the property. The result is a very special place: a quiet, attractive and comfortable house surrounded by nature and wildlife – the perfect place to relax in, especially for nature-lovers, writers, poets, composers, star-gazers and the like-minded.

The grounds are home to many varieties of birds, bees, butterflies, crickets, frogs, chameleons, salamanders, goats, cats and other creatures both large and small.

Numerous paths and sandy tracks wind their way north through the beautiful nature towards the province of Alentejo, and most are suitable not only for walking but also for cycling or even driving. But that`s not all: there are also concerts, cinemas, museums, libraries and beaches in the area. For example, Tavira – a small Moorish town just a 20-minute drive away – has plenty of things going on all year round, ranging from music, markets and small festivals, to art galleries and good restaurants. The nearest café-restaurant (`Monte Velho`) is only a 10-minute walk from Horta das canas
